Several hospitalized after sword attack in London

London, April 30 (EFE).- Five people were hospitalized in a sword attack by a 36-year-old man who was arrested Tuesday near a subway station in the Hainault area of east London, the city’s Ambulance Service confirmed.

According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police (Met), the incident – which according to the preliminary evidence does not appear to be of a terrorist attack – occurred shortly after 7am local time when the police received calls warning that a car had crashed into a house in the Thurlow Garden area.

Initial reports indicated that several people suffered stab wounds from the perpetrator, who also attacked two police officers.

The London Ambulance Service posted on social media platform X that its medical personnel treated five people at the scene and took them to a hospital, although their exact condition remains unknown.

“We were called at 6.54am this morning to reports of an incident near Hainault underground station,” the social media post said.

“Working together with our emergency services partners, we treated five people on the scene and took all five to hospital,” it added.

There were two policemen among the five people treated by the medical personnel.

The police said in a statement that a suspect had been detained after a man armed with a sword attacked two policemen and other members of the public.

“This must have been a terrifying incident for those concerned. I know the wider community will be feeling shock and alarm,” Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan said in the statement.

The Met also ruled out any threat to citizens as a result of this incident, and said it was not looking for more suspects. EFE
