Paris, Jun 8 (EFE).- French President Emmanuel Macron received his US counterpart Joe Biden on Saturday in a solemn ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
Biden, who arrived in the country on Wednesday to take part in the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy ‘D-Day’ Landings, is making his first state visit to France as US president.
Following the deployment of a huge security convoy that disrupted Paris traffic, Biden and his wife, Jill, were received by Macron and his wife, Brigitte, near the Arc de Triomphe in the center of the French capital.

After both of their countries’ anthems were played, Macron and Biden lit the flame dedicated to the “unknown soldier”, which honors the French soldiers who died during the First World War (1914-1918).
The ceremony was concluded by a flyover of four fighter jets.
At the end of the ceremony, the leaders headed for a working lunch at the Elysée Palace, followed by a joint press conference at which they are expected to address the war in Ukraine and Gaza, among other issues.
Later, a Franco-American business meeting will be held and the day will end with a gala dinner.
Biden returns to the US on Sunday, after visiting the American cemetery of Bois Belleau outside Paris. EFE
