Swiatek swats Paolini aside to win 3rd consecutive Roland Garros title

Paris, Jun 8 (EFE).- Iga Swiatek, Poland’s world number one, defeated Italy’s Jasmine Paolini to win the French Open on Saturday.

The victory makes it three consecutive titles – and four overall – for Swiatek, 23, at Roland Garros, to add to her US Open win in 2022.

Swiatek continued the dominant form she has shown in Paris, barely giving the Italian 12th seed a chance to get a foothold in the match, which was done and dusted in little over an hour.

The Polish star only dropped one set throughout the competition – to Naomi Osaka in the second round, when she recovered from a match point down – as she powered to the championship to become the first woman to win three consecutive French Open titles in 17 years.

It was one step too far for Paolini, who was making her first appearance at a Grand Slam final, having previously never reached the quarter finals at a major tournament. EFE
