Milwaukee, US, Jul 16 (EFE).- Republicans rallied around Donald Trump on Tuesday in a show of unity on the second day of their national convention, which featured several key political figures, including his main rival in the primaries, Nikki Haley.

The former Republican presidential candidate, who harshly criticized Trump during the primary campaign, said the former president asked to speak at the convention “in the name of unity.”

“President Trump asked me to speak at this convention in the name of unity. It was a gracious invitation, and I was happy to accept,” Haley said after being greeted with some boos.

“There are some Americans who don’t agree with Donald Trump 100 percent of the time. My message to them is simple: You don’t have to agree with Trump 100 percent of the time to vote for him,” she said.
“Take it from me. I haven’t always agreed with President Trump. But we agree more often than we disagree,” she added.
The ex-governor of South Carolina and former US ambassador to the UN was the most prominent speaker on the second day of the Republican National Convention that is being held this week in Milwaukee in Wisconsin.
A day after he made his first public appearance since the assassination attempt on him on Saturday at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump returned to the Republican Convention floor to listen to some of the speakers.
Once again he did not speak nor did his running mate, JD Vance, who will take the stage on Wednesday.
Trump will officially accept the nomination for president on Thursday.
Among the speakers on Tuesday were three of Trump’s challengers in the Republican primary: Haley, Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis and entrepreneur, Vivek Ramaswamy.
“Let’s send Donald Trump back to the White House,” said DeSantis, who got a warm reception from the crowd.
“We need a commander in chief who can lead 24 hours a day and seven days a week. America cannot afford four more years of a ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’ presidency,” he added in a criticism of the current president, Joe Biden.
Ramaswamy also pledged support to Trump calling him “the president who will actually unite the country.”
“Not through empty words but through action,” added the entrepreneur, who also mentioned one of the most talked about topics of the day: the closing of borders.
“If you want to seal the border, vote Trump,” he said.
With the show of unity at the convention, strengthened after the assassination attempt against the former president on Saturday, the division among Republicans over Trump, seems to be a thing of the past. EFE
