At least 11 dead in highway bridge collapse in northwestern China

Beijing, July 20 (EFE).- At least 11 people died following the partial collapse of a highway bridge in northwestern China, authorities said Saturday.

The collapse occurred on Friday night in the city of Shangluo in Shaanxi province and caused several vehicles to fall into the Jinqian river that flows below the bridge, state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

The collapse of the structure was caused by an increase in the river’s flow following a sudden downpour and flash floods, according to provincial authorities.
