Spain government to send more aid to flood-hit regions

Madrid, Nov 11 (EFE).- Spain’s government has approved a second package of measures to help people affected by recent devastating floods, prime minister Pedro Sanchez said Monday.

The approved measures will provide 3.765 billion euros (4.01 billion dollars) in aid for 400,000 workers, 30,000 companies and 100,000 households, Sanchez told a press conference.

The second aid package means the central government has provided over 14 billion euros to help victims of the storm and subsequent floods, which hit the country on Oct. 29 and Oct. 30.

The disaster is the worst to hit Spain in living memory. At least 222 people have died, while 32 remain missing. The majority of deaths (214) were in the eastern region of Valencia.

Sanchez also said more military troops, civil guard and national police officers and other emergency workers would be increased from 15,000 to 18,200.
