Dozens killed in airstrike on Sudan refugee camp

International Desk (EFE).- At least 37 civilians were killed and dozens wounded on Friday in a bombing by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the Abu Shouk displacement camp in El Fasher, North Darfur, a hospital source from the camp told EFE.

The source warned that the death toll is likely to rise, with many of the injured in critical condition.

The Sudan Doctors’ Medical Network condemned the attack, calling it a “crime that violates all international and humanitarian laws.”

It said the RSF carried out “a massacre” by striking a mosque with a drone during dawn prayers, killing worshippers, including both elderly people and children.

The group urged the international community, the United Nations, and the African Union to apply “serious pressure” to halt the attacks, protect civilians, and open humanitarian corridors for food and medical supplies.

El Fasher’s population, over half of whom live in displacement camps, has repeatedly come under attack from paramilitaries. In April, an offensive killed more than 500 civilians.

Since war broke out in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, the UN estimates that over 13 million people have been displaced inside and outside Sudan, while tens of thousands have been killed, though exact figures remain unclear.

According to the UN human rights office, violence intensified in 2024, with 3,384 civilians killed in the first half of the year, including in areas far from the front lines, where summary executions of adults and children have been reported. EFE
