Buenos Aires (EFE).- The President-elect of Chile José Antonio Kast, met with the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, on Tuesday in Buenos Aires, and anticipated a good relationship between the two countries.
“We are going to have a great relationship between Argentina and Chile,” Kast told the press outside the Casa Rosada.
Milei congratulated Kast on what he called “glorious” electoral triumph on Sunday.
The Argentine presidency announced it will launch a roadmap for joint work in March, focusing on regional and border security, the fight against transnational organized crime, and other issues.
Milei also noted that Kast’s first international visit after the elections was to Argentina, which, he said, “highlights the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship.”
He added that the relationship will enter a new phase of momentum and commitment in the face of the main challenges on the agenda, as well as regional and global issues.
In his brief statement to the press, Kast said he is “visiting some countries to see how to bring good examples to Chile.”
The Argentine Presidency announced that Milei will participate in the presidential command transmission ceremony in Chile on Mar. 11.
They also expressed their willingness to “advance in the construction and strengthening of a fruitful and modern relationship that boosts the economic development and prosperity of both countries.”
“The guiding principles that will define this new chapter in our bilateral relationship are, first and foremost, the defense of freedom, life, and private property. We will approach this endeavor with a spirit of cooperation and mutual trust, and with the political determination to establish a lasting path of growth for our countries and enhance regional security,” the text added.
During his visit to the Casa Rosada, Kast met with Luis Caputo, the Argentine Minister of Economy, and greeted Karina Milei, the president’s sister and Argentina’s General Secretary of the Presidency.
Milei was one of the first leaders to congratulate Kast on Sunday. He said it is “one more step” for the region in defense of freedom, and urged them to “work together for America to embrace the ideas of freedom.” EFE
