Mbappé defeats PSG in an ordinary court of law

By Luis Miguel Pascual

Paris (EFE).- The Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé will collect the back pay he was owed by Paris Saint-Germain for his final months with the French club, as ruled by the Paris labor court on Tuesday.

It’s a triumph for the player, who has been claiming 55 million euros. His previous team denied him the money, citing a verbal agreement he had made with the president, Nasser Al Khelaifi, not to leave.

The Labor Court added the corresponding holiday pay, bringing the total to 61 million euros, which Mbappé will receive from PSG in the coming days.

He will receive this sum even if the French club decides to appeal, as the magistrates imposed provisional payment.

Furthermore, the court dismissed all of PSG’s claims and their demand for 450 million euros from the player.

While Mbappé’s lawyers expressed satisfaction outside the courthouse, PSG’s lawyers issued a brief statement in which they did not rule out appealing the decision and sent a message to Mbappé, who left the club a year before they won their first Champions League title.

“The Club looks forward to the future based on collective unity and success; and we wish the player the best for the future,” the statement read.

The commissions of both the Professional Football League and the French Football Federation (FFF) had already ruled in favor of the player. However, the official decision was to be made in court.

“Historic” decision

“We are satisfied with the decision,” said Delphine Verheyden, Mbappé’s lawyer, who showed up with her assistant, Frédérique Cassereau. Cassereau considered the decision “historic.”

During the hearing before the Labor Court in November 2025, the two parties raised the tone, and the club requested 450 million from the player.

The soccer club accused Mbappé of being “disloyal” for not disclosing until the last moment his intention not to activate the optional third year of the contract renewal he had signed in 2022.

It prevented the club from considering offers for Mbappé, such as the one from Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia valued at around 300 million euros.

Mbappé sought compensation for unfair dismissal and moral damages, neither of which was granted.

The French player emerges victorious from a challenge that took on the appearance of a personal struggle with Al Khelaifi.

The conflict began in the summer of 2023 when the player stated that he would not fulfill the third year of his contract with PSG.

Al Khelaifi removed Mbappé from the first-team squad for a month, until both parties claimed to have reached an agreement.

However, nothing was put in writing. The player ultimately signed with Real Madrid, and the club withheld three months of his salary, claiming it was part of the agreement. EFE
