Los Angeles, US, Jan 30 (EFE).- Catherine O’Hara, who starred in “Home Alone,” “Beetlejuice,” “Schitt’s Creek” and ‘Best in Show’, died at 71, according to confirmation on Friday by her representative.
According to Variety, the Canadian actress died after a brief, unspecified illness at her home in Los Angeles, California.
O’Hara is best known for playing Kate McCallister, Kevin’s mother (Macaulay Culkin), in the 1990 Christmas comedy Home Alone.
Her career started on television with the comedy Second City Television, commonly known as SCTV Network 90, which earned her her first Emmy.
In 2020, she won a second one thanks to her role in the series Schitt’s Creek, where she played the eccentric and dramatic matriarch of the Rose family, Moira Rose. Born in Toronto in 1954, O’Hara was known for her improvisational skills in comedy.
After SCTV, the actress starred in films such as Martin Scorsese’s After Hours and Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice. O’Hara also worked with Burton, lending her voice to the film.
The Nightmare Before Christmas, and was a frequent collaborator with Christopher Guest, with whom she worked on mockumentaries such as Best in Show and For Your Consideration, among others.
In recent years, O’Hara also appeared in The Last of Us and The Studio, the Apple TV+ series in which she played Patty Leigh, a former film studio executive who helps Matt Remick (Seth Rogen) run one of Hollywood’s most important studios. EFE
