Trump: US current attacks were ‘last, best chance to strike’ Iran

Washington, Mar 2 (EFE).- United States President Donald Trump assured on Monday the current attacks against Iran were the “last, best chance to strike” to eliminate the “intolerable threats posed by this sick and sinister regime.”

In his first live appearance after the start of Saturday of Operation ‘Epic Fury’ against Iran, in which Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed, Trump insisted that an Iranian regime armed with nuclear weapons and long-range missiles would be an “intolerable threat” to the Middle East, as well as the American people.

The US president said the Iranian leadership “already had missiles capable of hitting Europe and our bases both local and overseas, and would soon have had missiles capable of reaching our beautiful America.”

Trump also insisted the objectives in Iran “are clear,” listing four of them, as he insisted the US was already on track to achieve them.

First, destroying Iran’s missile capabilities; Second, “annihilating” their Navy; Third, “that the world’s number one sponsor of terror can never obtain a nuclear weapon; and, fourth, “that the Iranian regime cannot continue to arm, fund and direct terrorist armies outside of their borders.”

However, Trump, who campaigned in 2024 with the promise of keeping his country out of prolonged wars abroad, raised the possibility that the operation against Iran could last more than five weeks, adding that “whatever the time (it takes) it’s OK.”

The US president also lamented the death of four American service members “killed in action, adding that “In their memory, we continue this mission with ferocious, unyielding resolve to crush the threat this terrorist regime poses to the American people.”

However, in a video message Sunday night, Trump said he expects there to be more American casualties, but combat operations “will continue until all of our objectives are achieved.” EFE
