International Desk, (EFE).- Iran launched attacks on the United Arab Emirates and Qatar on Wednesday, causing a fire at the Ras Laffan refinery, the country’s main liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, as well as a jet fuel depot in Riyadh and a refinery in Bahrain.
The Qatari government reported that civil defense is responding to a fire that has caused “extensive damage” at Ras Laffan, the nation’s primary LNG production site.
QatarEnergy confirmed the attack, stating that “emergency response teams were deployed immediately to contain the resulting fires” and that “no casualties have been reported at this time.”
The attacks come after Israel struck the South Pars gas facilities, part of the world’s largest gas field shared by Iran and Qatar, earlier on Wednesday. The Iranian Army had previously vowed that this action would not go unpunished.
Furthermore, Iran also launched an attack on the UAE, reportedly striking a fuel depot used to supply United States aircraft stationed at the Al-Kharj base, according to the Fars and Tasnim agencies (which are linked to the Revolutionary Guard).
The UAE Ministry of Defense reported that drones in the Al-Kharj governorate were intercepted, including one that was attempting to reach a gas plant in the eastern region of the country.
Iran’s Fars agency also reported that Iranian missiles struck the LNG refinery in Bahrain, which is located near the bridge connecting that country with Saudi Arabia. According to FARS’s information, the bridge was either destroyed or severely damaged.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had warned of “uncontrollable consequences” following the attacks on his country’s energy infrastructure, stating that they would further complicate the situation and could affect the entire world.
“Such aggressive acts will yield nothing for the Zionist–American enemy & their supporters. This will complicate the situation & could have uncontrollable consequences, the scope of which could engulf the entire world,” the president wrote on X.
Earlier on Wednesday, Israel and the United States attacked Iranian gas refineries in the South Pars Energy Special Economic Zone, in Asalouyeh, on the southern coast.
Eskandar Pasalar, the governor of Asalouyeh, told the semi-official Tasnim agency that the bombings caused fires in several areas of the facility. The facility is part of the world’s largest gas field. Pasalar added that firefighters and rescue forces contained the fires, and the situation in the area is under control. There were no casualties reported from the attack.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack on Ras Laffan, calling it “a flagrant violation of state sovereignty, and a direct threat to its national security and regional stability.” EFE
