Washington, Mar 26 (EFE).- US President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he is extending his pause on striking of Iranian energy plants by 10 days.
“As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time,” the Republican leader announced via his Truth Social network.
“Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well,” he added.
Last week, Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran to fully reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz sunder threat of destroying its hydroelectric power plants.
The original deadline was set for Monday, but he later extended it to this Friday, arguing that both countries had begun negotiating an end to the conflict.
On Thursday, Trump was asked by the press if he planned to extend his ultimatum again and replied that it would depend on the advice of his negotiators: Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.
“I don’t know yet. I don’t know. Mr. Witkoff, JD and Jared will tell me whether or not they think it’s going along, and if it’s not going along, maybe not,” he said.
According to the US president, Iran is “begging for a deal” and has allowed a dozen oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as a show of goodwill.
The US government, through Pakistani mediation, sent a 15-point plan to Iranian authorities to end the war, but Tehran has rejected it. While the White House speaks of negotiations, the Pentagon is preparing various options for military intervention to deliver a “final blow” in the war, which could include the involvement of ground forces, according to a report published Thursday by Axios.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says that the words and actions of the United States are a “contradiction,” since while calling for negotiations, it continues its aggression and sends more forces to the region. EFE
