Alcaraz, Sinner, Medvedev reach Miami Open quarterfinals, Rybakina, Azarenka in semis

New York City, US, Mar 26 (EFE).- Top seeds Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Daniil Medvedev reached the men’s singles quarterfinals of the Miami Open while Elena Rybakina and Victoria Azarenka booked their places in the women’s singles semifinals on Tuesday.

World number two and Indian Wells champion Alcaraz, dominated Italian Lorenzo Musetti in a 6-3, 6-3 win.

“Well, I’m happy with that performance that I did today. I think it was a complete match from my side,” Alcaraz said after the match.

Alcaraz, who is aiming to become the first player since Roger Federer in 2017 to capture titles at Indian Wells and Miami in the same season, will face Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinal.

Dimitrov came back from one set down to beat 2021 champion and eighth seed Hubert Hurkacz 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3).

Chilean Nicolas Jarry upset Norwegian Casper Ruud 7-6 (3), 6-3 in one hour and 50 minutes to join Russian Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinal.

Defending champion and world number four Medvedev defeated German Dominik Koepfer 7-6(5), 6-0 in the round of 16.

Also in the quarterfinals will be world number three, Italian Jannik Sinner, who defeated Australia’s Christopher O’Donnell, 6-4, 6-3 to reach his fourth consecutive quarterfinal.

He will face Czech Tomas Machac, who beat Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi 6-3, 6-3.

Fourth seed Alexander Zverev from Germany also clinched a quarterfinal spot after defeating Karen Khachanov 6-1, 6-4.

His opponent will be Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan, who upset ninth seed Alex de Minaur of Australia 6-4, 0-6, 6-1.

In women’s singles, Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the highest-ranked player so far to survive in the tournament, defeated Greek Maria Sakkari 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-4 in two hours and 48 minutes to advance to the semifinals.

Her opponent in the last four will be Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, who had to save three set points in the first set before beating Kazakh Yulia Putintseva 7-6(4), 1-6, 6-3. EFE
