Hammers hold Tottenham as Forest beat Fulham

Sports Desk, Apr 3 (EFE).- West Ham United held Tottenham Hotspurs to a 1-1 draw in the English Premier League on Tuesday, denying their London rivals an opportunity to return to the Champions League qualification zone.

Brennan Johnson opened the scoring for Tottenham at the Olympic stadium in London early on before Kurt Zouma netted in the 19th minute from a corner to level the contest.

Both sides had opportunities to win the game amid pouring rain in east London, but none could grab them.

The game was a landmark one for Tottenham’s South Korean star Heung-Min Son, who made his 400th appearance for the club, just the 14th player to reach that tally for the club since it entered the football league in 1908.

Tottenham remained in fifth position after the draw, two behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Former European champions Nottingham Forest, who were docked four points for breaking financial rules, breathed ease finally after posting a vital 3-1 win over Fulham that kept them still above the relegation zone.

They recovered the four points that had been taken away following the resumption of the league after the international break, first with a draw against Crystal Palace over the weekend and now with this convincing win, which came on the back of a stunning first-half performance.

They started the game with purpose and took the lead inside nine minutes through Callum Hudson-Odoi, with Morgan Gibbs-White sending a beautiful ball to the former Chelsea man, who cut inside and sent the ball into the far corner.

Forest made it 2-0 in 19 minutes as New Zealander Chris Wood curled an effort into the bottom corner after receiving the ball from Murillo 20 yards from the goal for his eighth goal in nine Premier League matches.

Anthony Elanga hit the post to deny them a further lead, but Forest did not have to wait too long to score their third as an impressive build-up saw Gibbs-White exchange passes with Danilo before slotting the ball home in injury time of the first half.

Fulham pulled one goal back in the second half through Tosin Adarabioyo, but that did not affect the result as Forest remained in 17th place with 25 points, just above the three bottom teams.

Everton heaved a sigh of relief after a late penalty from Carlvert-Lewin canceled out an early goal by Alexander Isak and earned them a 1-1 draw to keep the Merseyside club four points above the relegation zone.
