Trossard secures draw for Arsenal against dominant Bayern

Sports Desk, Apr 10 (EFE).- Leandro Trossard came off the bench to score the equalizer as Arsenal overcame a fear of defeat to secure a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinal first leg on Tuesday.

Despite Bukayo Saka earning an early lead for Arsenal, Bayern looked the most likely winners, thanks to goals from Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane, until Trossard rescued the draw for the home side in the 76th minute.

Saka received a pass from Ben White and finished with a delightful shot to enliven the Emirates Stadium, which was silenced just six minutes later, when Gnabry took advantage of a nervous breakdown in Arsenal’s defense.

Gabriel, with all the time in the world, managed a miss pass under pressure from Kane, which Jakub Kiwior failed to receive, allowing Leroy Sane to combine with Leon Goretzka to set up for Gnabry to finish through David Raya’s legs.

The goal sent a shock wave around the stadium, where no one celebrated the goal due to a ban on Bayern supporters for the match.

Gnabry led a counterattack from the center of the field and was dodging rivals until Saliba tripped him, prompting the referee to point for a spot.

Kane stepped in to score now against Arsenal.

The player has scored in each of the last 10 seasons against Arsenal with 15 goals in 20 matches.

Arsenal survived their worst minutes and began to get going in the second half, especially with the entry of Trossard and Gabriel Jesus.

Trossard showed his predatory instincts soon after coming on, side-footing his first-time finish into the bottom corner.

“We scored a really good goal and, straight after that, it was a different match,” said Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta.

“This is the Champions League: if you make mistakes, you get punished. I have a lot of belief we can go there and beat them. We have to prepare really well.”

Kingsley Coman nearly restored Bayern’s lead in the first minute of added time, but his jab at a cross from the left came back off the woodwork, leaving Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel frustrated.

“I think we could have won it at the end, we had the huge chance with Kingsley [Coman]. It was a tough night against a very good opponent. The fans were really behind Arsenal, the result is okay,” said Tuchel. EFE
