Man Utd appoint Ruben Amorim as new head coach

London, Nov 1 (EFE).- Manchester United have appointed Ruben Amorim as the new head coach of the men’s first team, the club said in a statement Friday.

The Portuguese coach takes over from Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag, who was sacked this week after a poor start to the campaign.

“Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football,” Manchester United said in the statement.

Amorim will sign a contract until 2027 with the option of an additional year, “once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club,” reigning Portuguese champions Sporting CP.

Amorim, who led Sporting to two Portuguese league titles, including club’s first in 19 years, will join United on Monday, 11 November.

Interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in charge until Amorim arrives, United added in the statement. EFE
