Spain–England face-off in Euro final echoes World Cup, Nations League title battles

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 24 (EFE).— Spain and England will meet once again in a major tournament final, this time in the 2025 UEFA Women’s Euro final.

The face-off at St. Jakob Park in Basel rekindles their recent rivalry after Spain’s World Cup victory in Australia and New Zealand and a crucial win in the Nations League earlier this year.

The reigning world champions booked their spot in Sunday’s title match after defeating Germany with a last-minute goal in extra time. England advanced after a similar late win over Italy.

The upcoming clash will be the 20th meeting between the two nations.

England holds the historical edge, with 13 wins to Spain’s five, but La Roja’s most recent victory came on June 3 in Cornellà, where Claudia Pina scored twice in a 2–1 Nations League win.

In the first leg at Wembley, England had edged Spain by a single goal.

Sunday’s final will be a tactical battle between two elite coaches. For Montse Tomé, it will be her second final as Spain’s head coach, having won her first in the 2024 Nations League. Meanwhile, Sarina Wiegman continues her remarkable streak, reaching her fifth consecutive major final as a coach.

Wiegman previously led the Netherlands to the finals of the 2017 Euro and the 2019 World Cup, and guided England to both the 2022 Euro and the 2023 World Cup finals. Now, in 2025, she returns with the lionesses aiming to reclaim European glory. EFE
