Sports Desk (EFE).- Goalkeeper Lorena’s hands saved a shot from Jorelyn Carabali on Saturday, and with a 4-5 lead in the penalty shootout, the Brazilian women’s national team won their ninth Copa America title after a 4-4 draw in a thrilling extra time.
The Colombians and Brazilians tied 3-3 in regulation time at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado Stadium in Quito, and in the 30 minutes of extra time, the tireless Marta and Leicy Santos were decisive in extending the match with their goals to 4-4.
But in the penalty shootout, they lacked the same accuracy, and their shots were saved by Colombia’s Katia Tapia and Brazil’s Lorena.
The Women’s Copa America remains elusive for Colombia, having lost the title 1-0 to the same Brazilian team three years ago in a final played in Bucaramanga.

Three years later, in the tenth edition of the tournament hosted by Ecuador in its capital, Quito, both countries put on a pyrotechnic display.
Colombia’s No. 10 Leicy Santos, made it 4-4 with a free kick in the 115th minute.
The tireless Marta Vieira da Silva came on in the 82nd minute and scored a brace that seemed to put the Canarinha team on track for their ninth title of the match.
The native of Dois Riachos, a municipality in the northeastern state of Alagoas, scored her 117th goal Saturday for the Green and Yellow national team. First, she tied the game 3-3 in regulation time, just into the sixth minute of added time. And then she made it 3-4 in the 115th minute.

Linda Caicedo put the Colombians ahead in the 25th minute, but before the end of the first half, in the ninth minute of stoppage time, Angelina equalized with a penalty.
In the second half, Brazilian defender Tarciante put the Colombians ahead with a penalty, but the tournament’s top scorer, Amanda, kept things level at 2-2, scoring her sixth of the season.
Las Cafeteras thought they had secured the title in the 88th minute through Mayra Ramirez, but the tireless Marta appeared in the 96th minute to extend the final into 30 minutes of extra time. EFE
