Alcaraz reaches US Open semifinals after beating Lehecka

International Desk, Sep 2 (EFE).- Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the US Open semifinals on Tuesday after defeating Czech player Jiri Lehecka in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4, in one hour and 56 minutes.

The Spanish world number two broke Lehecka’s serve in the opening game of the first and second sets, taking early control.

Alcaraz did not face a single break point throughout the match, winning 84% of points on his first serve.

“I try not to think too much about the number one ranking. I just want to focus on my goals on the court and enjoy it,” Alcaraz said after the match.

In the second set, he produced a decisive volley at 3-2 and 15-30, consolidating his lead.

In the third, Lehecka held serve until 4-4, but Alcaraz converted a break point to go up 5-4 and then served out the match to love.

With this win, Alcaraz surpassed 10,000 points in the ATP ranking for the first time. He will face either Novak Djokovic or Taylor Fritz in the semifinals.

“I want to keep doing my thing and play my best tennis,” he added.

Alcaraz remains unbeaten in sets at this year’s US Open. EFE
