Barcelona authorized to reopen Camp Nou with capacity for 27,000 fans

Barcelona, Spain, Oct 17 (EFE).- FC Barcelona received the first occupancy license on Friday for phase 1A of the Spotify Camp Nou renovation, allowing it to reopen the stadium with a provisional capacity of 27,000 spectators, according to sources at Barcelona City Council.

However, this progress does not mean that the team will immediately be able to play at the stadium.

Why Barcelona Won’t Immediately Return to Camp Nou

On Oct. 7, the Catalan club announced that it was working toward returning to Spotify Camp Nou once it obtained the license for Phase 1B, which will increase the stadium’s capacity to 45,000.

According to the club, its decision is based on the fact that the delay in obtaining the 1A license has brought its approval very close in time to that of 1B, and that the capacity of Lluís Companys allows for higher revenues to be generated, thus compensating for those obtained in previous matches played at the Johan Cruyff Stadium while providing more days for operational testing.

The Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium hosted the Barça first team’s home matches in the last two seasons (2023-24 and 2024-25).

This season, it has hosted matches against Real Sociedad and Paris Saint-Germain.

Upcoming Home Games: Confirmed and Pending Venues

The Catalan club has confirmed that the Olympic venue will host its next two home games: against Girona in LaLiga on Saturday, and against Olympiacos in the Champions League on Oct. 21.

Barcelona’s subsequent LaLiga home games are scheduled for Nov. 2 against Elche, Nov. 23 against Athletic Club, and Nov. 30 against Alavés.

However, the venue for these games has yet to be confirmed. EFE
