27 humanitarian aid trucks enter Gaza through floating pier: IDF

Jerusalem, May 23 (EFE).- A total of 27 trucks of humanitarian aid entered Gaza on Wednesday via an artificial dock built by the United States, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported Thursday.

On Wednesday, the trucks containing 371 pallets of humanitarian aid, including food and shelter equipment, were transferred to logistics centers belonging to international aid agencies in the Gaza Strip, it confirmed.

The army also inspected 281 trucks, including 45 from Jordan and 50 carrying flour for the World Food Program (WFP), that passed through the Kerem Shalom and Erez West crossings.

The United Nations is planning new humanitarian aid delivery routes from the floating dock.

On Wednesday, UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) announced the cessation of food distribution in Rafah – from where 950,000 people have already fled according to the army – since its facilities and those of the WFP were inaccessible due to attacks and the presence of Israeli tanks to the east of the town.

In six months of war, 90 percent of the Gazan population has been forcibly displaced amid severe shortages of food, drinking water and medicine, while 60 percent of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or completely destroyed, according to figures from the UN.

In addition, more than 35,700 people have been killed and some 80,000 have been injured, most of them civilians, according to the latest figures from the Gaza Ministry of Health.

Another 10,000 bodies remain missing under the rubble. EFE
