At least 4 dead in US nightclub shooting

Washington, July 15 (EFE).- At least four people were killed and nine others injured in a shooting over the weekend at a nightclub in the US city of Birmingham, Alabama.

Investigators believe that at least one person fired from the street into the nightclub, where responding police officers found several deceased, Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald said in a video statement.

Police located the bodies of two women inside the nightclub and another man on a sidewalk near the scene of the shooting, while a fourth victim died in a hospital, according to CNN.

Following the incident, at least nine people with gunshot wounds arrived at a nearby hospital where they received treatment, according to the police.

CNN reported that police have not yet identified any suspects in the shooting and are unaware of the motives behind the incident.

“Detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting,” Fitzgerald said in statements reproduced by CNN.

The American network reports that, so far in 2024, there have been at least 293 mass shootings in the country, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as one in which four or more people are shot, excluding the shooter. EFE
