Sports Desk, Aug 14 (EFE).- Atletico Madrid beat Granada 3-1 Monday in the LaLiga opener for both clubs and the Colchoneros sit atop the table by virtue of scoring more goals than the six other clubs who also started the season with victories.

Alvaro Morata gave the hosts the lead with a goal in first-half stoppage time as the tactical scheme that allowed Granada to keep Atleti at bay finally broke down.

An earlier goal by the Atletico striker was disallowed for offside.

Goalkeeper Jan Oblak had to be sharp to stop Samu Omorodion from bringing Granada level early in the second half and with the home side only ahead by one as the hour mark approached, manager Diego Simeone swapped out Morata for Memphis Depay.
The move turned out to be warranted, as a giveaway by Yannick Carrasco in the 62nd minute set up Omorodion’s equalizer.
Five minutes later, Depay beat Granada keeper Andre Ferreira with an exquisite shot from nearly 30 yards out to restore Atleti’s edge. Oblak was tested again in stoppage time by Myrto Uzuni before Marcos Llorente nailed down the 3 points with a goal in the 98th minute.
