Washington (EFE).- The United States President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that his country plans to «withdraw» from Iran «in two or three weeks,» after stating that recent operations have achieved their planned military objectives.
«I would say that within two weeks, maybe three. We’re hitting them very hard,» the president responded when asked about the current situation of the war in Iran.
«Last night, we knocked down tremendous amounts of missile making facilities,» the Republican added, arguing that most of the US military objectives had been accomplished.
Furthermore, Trump said it is possible they will reach an agreement before the withdrawal, but «it doesn’t matter» because, with the damage they have inflicted, «it will take 15 to 20 years for them to rebuild» what has been destroyed.
Subsequently, the president was questioned about the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and stated that security in the area will no longer be a US concern and that France, China, and other countries will be able to supply their ships and manage by themselves.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trump called on countries that have refused to participate in his military offensive against Iran to act with «courage» and «take» the strait: «The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!» he indicated on Truth Social.
Iran has closed this route by attacking oil tankers and has only allowed some tankers to pass near its coasts as a tactic to exert global economic pressure during the conflict.
Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti oil tanker was hit by a projectile launched from Iran early Tuesday morning while it was in the port of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, according to the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. EFE
