International Desk, Apr 22 (EFE).- Iran has opened fire in recent hours on a container ship located 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman, in the Strait of Hormuz, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency (UKMTO) said Wednesday.
An armed boat from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) approached the ship without prior radio contact and opened fire on it, causing «heavy damage to the bridge,» the agency said, which collects information on attacks on ships in Iran’s war.
«No fires or environmental impact reported. All Crew reported safe,» the UK-based agency added.
The information about the attack comes a day after US President Donald Trump reversed his decision not to extend the ceasefire with Iran, which was set to expire on Wednesday, and announced an indefinite truce to allow time for negotiations with the Iranian regime.
Trump vowed, however, to maintain the naval blockade imposed against Iran, which, according to the US Central Command, has halted 90 percent of Iran’s maritime trade for the past 10 days. EFE
