IDF kills 6 alleged Hezbollah members despite ceasefire in Lebanon

Jerusalem (EFE).- The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed the killing of six alleged Hezbollah members in Bint Jbeil, southern Lebanon, on Friday, despite the three-week extension of the ceasefire announced by the White House on Thursday.

«An exchange of fire occurred between the terrorists and the security forces (Israeli), during which two terrorists were killed. In the attack, four other terrorists at the scene were killed,» the IDF said in a statement.

They added that there were no casualties among the IDF.

«This is another blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement by the terrorist organization Hezbollah,» the military note concluded, blaming the militia, absent from the peace negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, for initiating hostilities despite the truce.

Hours earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had an «excellent conversation» with United States President Donald Trump and that Israel has «freedom of action» in Lebanon.

«We have started a process to achieve historic peace between Israel and Lebanon. We are clear that Hezbollah is trying to sabotage it. We maintain full freedom of action against any threat, including emerging ones. We attacked yesterday, and we attacked today,» Netanyahu said regarding the situation in Lebanon.

As of Friday morning, alarms were activated in several areas of northern Israel. According to the army, a Hezbollah drone penetrated the area and was successfully intercepted.

The IDF reported that one of its drones was shot down in southern Lebanon after Hezbollah launched a small-caliber surface-to-air missile.

The militant group Hezbollah entered the regional conflict in response to the joint operation by the US and Israel against Iran, which led Israel to respond with even greater force against Lebanon, causing 2,294 deaths and 7,544 injuries in seven weeks, according to official data. EFE
