International Desk, May 9 (EFE).- Two people aboard a vessel allegedly linked to drug trafficking operations were killed in a US attack in the Eastern Pacific on Friday as part of a US campaign that human rights organizations denounce as extrajudicial executions.
«On May 8, at the direction of SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations,» the US Southern Command said on X.
«Two male narco-terrorists were killed during this action, and one survived the strike,» it added.
Following the strike, the US forces notified the Coast Guard to activate a search and rescue operation for the survivor.
No US military personnel were injured, according to Southern Command, whose post included a video of the reported attack showing the vessel being hit.
More than 50 strikes have been carried out against alleged drug boats in the Pacific and southern Caribbean leaving over 150 dead since September 2025.
The US launched a military campaign on international waters near Venezuela and Colombia, which included the capture of Venezuelan ex-President Nicolás Maduro on Jan. 3.
On Tuesday, US forces announced the destruction of a boat allegedly linked to drug trafficking networks in international waters of the Pacific and claimed that its three crew members were killed. EFE
