Berlin, Jul 9 (EFE).- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Thursday that his country will receive interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense systems from the United States.
«In the coming days, we will receive a package from the United States, and there have also been separate agreements with Europeans on my part. No dates yet, but there will be additional PAC-3 missiles,» Zelenskyy told the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform.
During the NATO summit in Ankara, the Ukrainian president met US President Donald Trump and other European leaders.
«In the coming days, we will receive a package from the United States, and I also had separate agreements with the Europeans. There is no specific date there yet, but there will be additional PAC-3s,» Zelenskyy said, referring to one of the models of interceptor missiles used by the Patriot systems, which Kyiv employs to defend itself against the ballistic missiles with which Russia is attacking Ukraine.
In Ankara, Trump said he would allow Ukraine to manufacture missiles for the Patriot systems with US assistance.
«It’s now very important that our technical teams, all our representatives from different ministries, representatives of the executive branch, start working on this without delay, so that we can get licences very quickly and start production in Ukraine as soon as possible,»Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president also said that, in the face of ballistic threats, his country is working in parallel with eight European nations on the Freya project.
«These are eight countries that can help both Ukraine and the whole of Europe create their own anti-ballistic system. I have high hopes for this project. If our partners support us in the coming days or weeks, it will be a great help and a significant breakthrough for Ukraine’s defense industry,» Zelenskyy said. EFE
