Mexico City, Oct. 30 (EFE).- The Chinese Embassy in Mexico expressed its «strong dissatisfaction and categorical rejection» on Friday regarding statements made by the United States Ambassador Ronald Johnson about relations between the Asian nation and Mexico.

The embassy stated that Johnson’s remarks «distort the truth and deliberately attempt to sow discord between China and Mexico.»

On Wednesday, during the Milken Institute Global Investors Conference in Mexico City, the US diplomat claimed that China would benefit from Mexico being «chaotic, unsecure on the US southern border.»

He added that China would be «so happy that they’re willing to incentivize businesses that will actually cost them money to create a dependency and create that chaos.»

«Such rhetoric ignores facts, distorts the truth, and deliberately seeks to sow discord between China and Mexico,» the Chinese Embassy noted in an official statement.

«China consistently supports Mexico’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and security, while fostering development and stability,» it added.

The diplomatic mission asserted that claiming «China loves chaos» is «pure invention and malicious slander.» It further remarked that the US demand for illegal drugs «provides cartels with massive markets and profits.»

It also emphasized that illegal weapons and drug money flowing from the US into Mexico «fuel criminal violence, severely endanger the lives of Mexican citizens, and undermine social peace.»

«The American side avoids addressing these core issues and, worse, invents alleged ‘Chinese malice’ out of thin air. Does the US truly care about Mexico, or is it merely trying to divert public attention and evade its own responsibilities?» the embassy questioned.

The embassy also called it «absurd» to label Chinese companies as «unreliable,» pointing out that while some US officials «continually denigrate Chinese businesses, they simultaneously aggressively seek business opportunities for US energy and natural gas companies.»

«Slandering China does not solve the issues between the US and Mexico. China remains firmly resolved to defend its legitimate rights and interests, as well as to deepen friendship and cooperation with Mexico,» the statement concluded.

The US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) has strengthened US investment in the region. However, the ongoing trade war between the US and China has prompted Chinese companies to establish operations in Mexico through nearshoring strategies. By relocating manufacturing closer to the US to avoid tariffs, Chinese investments have heightened tensions with Washington. EFE
