Washington, Nov 2 (EFE).- Tech mogul Elon Musk has shattered records by becoming the single largest individual donor in a single election cycle, pouring 474 million dollars into the Republican Party (GOP) ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections in the United States.

No non-candidate donor has ever publicly contributed such a massive sum.

Despite the staggering amount already disclosed for the GOP, an investigation by The New York Times suggests the true figure could be even higher. Musk has made undisclosed donations, and federal records only reflect contributions through Oct. 14, meaning his spending likely continued in the campaign’s final weeks.

Several Democratic lawmakers have announced plans to launch investigations into Musk if they regain control of either house of Congress in the midterm elections, as recent polls suggest could happen.

The proposed inquiries would focus on his leadership of the since-disbanded Department of Government Efficiency, federal contracts awarded to his companies, and his role in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Beyond Musk’s record-breaking personal contributions, the 2026 midterms have also set a new high for total political advertising spending in the United States, surpassing even the 2024 presidential cycle, according to ad-tracking firm AdImpact.

Tuesday’s elections will decide all seats in the House of Representatives, one-third of the 100 Senate seats, 36 state governorships, and numerous local offices. EFE
