Bogotá, (EFE).- United States President Donald Trump told his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, on Tuesday that it was a «great honor» to meet him and that he loves Colombia, in a card he gave him during their meeting in Washington.
»Gustavo. A great honor. I love Colombia,» reads the card with the White House letterhead accompanying a photograph of the two smiling, posted on X by the Colombian president.

Petro also posted another photo of the US President’s 1987 book, «Trump, the Art of the Deal,» signed and dedicated with the message: «You’re great.»
«What did Trump mean by this dedication? I don’t understand English very well,» Petro wrote in his X account accompanying the second photo.

The meeting, which took place behind closed doors and without access to the press, was not a high-profile reception like that of other Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele and Argentina’s Javier Milei.
The Colombian president arrived in a US Secret Service vehicle with the Colombian flag, but was not greeted at the West Wing door by Trump or the traditional military honor guard.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in an interview with Fox News that Trump entered the meeting «in a very good mood.»
This was the first meeting between Trump and Petro, who is in the final stretch of his term, with the first round of the Colombian presidential elections scheduled for May 31.
The focus was on the issue of drug trafficking, as Washington maintains that cocaine production has skyrocketed under Petro’s government, while Petro argues that his crop substitution policy has been successful. EFE
