New Delhi, Jul 12 (EFE).- Mumbai airport in western India was in a frenzy of excitement on Friday with the arrival of celebrities and elite personalities for the high-profile wedding of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of magnate Mukesh Ambani, with Radhika Merchant.
The wedding, the festivities leading up to which has drawn widespread attention for its over-the-top celebrations, promises to be one of the most expensive ceremonies ever in India.
The guest list includes people from the field of politics, sports and entertainment. Notable arrivals included former British prime ministers, Tony Blair and Boris Johnson.
American reality stars Kim and Khloe Kardashian were also spotted disembarking in Mumbai to join the three-day festivities starting Friday with the marriage ritual.
Indian media also showed footage of the arrival on Thursday of American star Nick Jonas and his spouse, Indian actress Priyanka Chopra.
Samsung CEO Han Jong Hee is expected to join the celebrations, along with other prominent figures such as former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and his wife, according to Indian media.
According to several media outlets such as the Times of India, celebrities like David and Victoria Beckham too are among the invitees, as well as select members of Bollywood elites such as actors Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
The wedding will take place at the Jio World Convention Center, and the festivities will continue on July 13 with a blessing ceremony or “Shubh Ashirwad,” and a grand reception on July 14, known as the «Mangal Utsav.»
According to Indian media such as Mint, Indian Express, Hindustan Times, the Ambani family has hired three Falcon 2000 aircraft to transport guests to the wedding ceremony in Mumbai, and dozens of private jets.
Radhika Merchant is the daughter of Indian industrialist Viren Merchant, while her 29-year old groom’s father is among the world’s 10 richest men, with a fortune of over $110 billion, according to Forbes.
The pre-wedding parties began in March, with three days of over-the-top celebrations at a complex owned by the Ambani family in Jamnagar, that saw more than 1,200 guests attending.
The event featured a performance by Rihanna, among many others, and was attended by several high profile names, including several big Bollywood names and magnates such as Bill Gates.
The pre-wedding celebrations did not stop there. The couple embarked on a luxurious four-day Mediterranean cruise in May with 1,200 other friends and family, which included performances by the Backstreet Boys, DJ David Guetta, Pitbull and Katy Perry, the bride revealed in an interview in Vogue magazine.
