Dozens killed, injured in building fire in Hanoi: state media

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Sep 13 (EFE).- Dozens of people were killed and injured after a fire broke out in an apartment building in the Vietnamese capital, state media reported Wednesday.

The fire broke out at the nine-story building in Hanoi’s Thanh Xuan district at 11:50 pm on Tuesday, Vietnam News reported.

Seventy of the 150 residents have been rescued, of which 54 have been hospitalized.

Dozens are believed to have been killed or injured although the final figure is not known.

The nearby Bach Mai Hospital has admitted 19 people, including eight children.

Two of the patients have died and another is critical, the hospital said.

Another hospital, Dong Da, received eight injured people, of whom four have died, Vietnam News reported.

The fire has now been extinguished and rescue teams continue to search for victims.

It is unknown at this time what caused the fire. EFE
