Confident Trump focused on elections in last New Hampshire speech

Salem, United States, Jan 22 (EFE).- Former United States President Donald Trump focused Monday on November’s presidential elections before the New Hampshire primaries, where he will face Nikki Haley, his only opponent vying for the Republican nomination.

The former president’s last speech before the primaries was interrupted several times by climate protesters while he encouraged voters to consider the race as a message to current President Joe Biden of what awaits him during the general election.

His speech in the town of Laconia was a review of some of the issues that have marked his campaign so far, from the immigration crisis to high inflation, including his multiple legal cases. The Republican candidate said he faced judicial persecution.

“Our enemies want to take away my freedom, because I will never let them take away your freedom,” he said. He also criticized Haley, saying she is moved by the interests of the political elite.

The former president hopes to leave New Hampshire as the undisputed conservative leader ahead of the elections.

The New Hampshire primary is the first national electoral event on the calendar, after the Iowa Republican caucuses gave Trump a landslide victory last week.

New Hampshire electoral law says that theirs must always be the first primaries in the country in each electoral cycle, but Democrats have wanted to change their primary calendar to downplay the importance of the state, where Biden came fifth four years ago.

However, the state has gone ahead with the election, which does not have the recognition of the Democratic party and in which no seats will be distributed.

In the Republican primaries in New Hampshire, there are only 11 seats at stake of the 2,429 that will be summoned at the Republican National Convention that will nominate the winning candidate in mid-July in Milwaukee.

Trump is the main favorite, although Haley hopes to gain momentum for the next electoral events, which could be possible given the large number of independent registered voters in the state. EFE
