Taylor Swift breaks her silence over canceled concerts in Vienna

New York City, US, Aug 21 (EFE).- American singer Taylor Swift spoke for the first time on Wednesday about the cancellation of her concerts in Austria after the discovery of a planned terror attack.

“Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows,” she said in an Instagram post.

“In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to,” she added.

The star also said that after the cancellation of her concerts in Vienna she felt “fear” and “a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows” at the Ernst Happel stadium in the Austrian capital.

Swift said she was grateful to the Austrian authorities “because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives” and said that despite the situation she was “heartened by the love and unity” she saw in the fans who banded together.

The sold out Eras Tour concerts in Vienna, which were scheduled to be attended by some 170,000 people between Aug. 8 and 10, were canceled after the arrest of two suspects who were planning a terrorist attack targeting the shows.

“I decided that all of my energy had to go toward helping to protect the nearly half a million people I had coming to see the shows in London. My team and I worked hand in hand with stadium staff and British authorities every day in pursuit of that goal,” Swift said.

“Walking onstage in London was a roller coaster of emotions. Having our Vienna shows canceled was devastating,” she added.

Swift also said that the energy during her performance at London’s Wembley Stadium “was like the most giant bear hug from 92,000 people each night” and brought her back to “a place of carefree calm up there.”

The next concert of The Eras Tour is scheduled to be held in Miami, Florida on Oct.18. EFE
