‘Severance’ leads 2025 Emmy nominations; Pedro Pascal highlights Hispanic representation

Los Angeles, US (EFE).- The Apple TV+ hit ‘Severance’ leads the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations with 27 nods in the drama series category, followed closely by ‘The Penguin’ (HBO Max) with 24 in the limited series category. Meanwhile, actors Pedro Pascal, Javier Bardem, and Liza Colón-Zayas bring strong Hispanic representation to this year’s list of nominees.

‘Severance’, a psychological sci-fi thriller about a company that surgically separates employees’ work and personal memories, will compete for Best Drama Series against major contenders including: ‘Andor’ (Disney+, 14 nominations), ‘The White Lotus’ (HBO Max, 23), ‘The Last of Us’ (HBO Max, 16), ‘The Diplomat’ (Netflix, 2), ‘The Pitt’ (HBO Max, 13), ‘Paradise’ (Hulu, 4), ‘Slow Horses’ (Apple TV+, 5).

The show’s leads, Adam Scott and Britt Lower, earned nominations for Best Actor and Actress in a Drama Series. Lower will face off against Bella Ramsey (‘The Last of Us’), Keri Russell (‘The Diplomat’), Kathy Bates (‘Matlock’), and Sharon Horgan (‘Bad Sisters’).

Scott will compete against Pedro Pascal (‘The Last of Us’), Sterlin K. Brown (‘Paradise’), Noah Wyle (‘The Pitt’), and Gary Oldman (‘Slow Horses’).

Comedy and limited series categories

Apple TV+ also dominated the comedy category with ‘The Studio’, scoring 23 nominations, beating ‘The Bear’ (FX, 13) and ‘Hacks’ (Paramount+, 14).

Comedian Seth Rogen earned his first Emmy nomination for ‘The Studio’ and will compete with Jeremy Allen White (‘The Bear’), Martin Short (‘Only Murders in the Building’), Jason Segel (‘Shrinking’), and Adam Brody (‘Nobody Wants This’).

In the limited series race, ‘The Penguin’ led with 24 nominations, followed by Netflix’s ‘Adolescence’ (13) and ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ (11).

First-time nominees dominate the Best Actor in a Limited Series category, including Colin Farrell as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot in ‘The Penguin’, Jake Gyllenhaal (‘Presumed Innocent’), Cooper Koch (‘Monsters’), Stephen Graham (‘Adolescence’), and Brian Tyree Henry (‘Dope Thief’).

Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón’s limited series ‘Disclaimer’ earned a single nomination, Cate Blanchett for Best Actress in a Limited Series.

Other nominees include Michelle Williams (‘Dying for Sex’), Meghann Fahy (‘Sirens’), Rashida Jones (‘Black Mirror’), and Cristin Milioti (‘The Penguin’).

Strong Hispanic presence at the Emmys

Chilean actor Pedro Pascal secured his fourth Emmy nomination, this time for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in ‘The Last of Us’.

Spanish actor Javier Bardem received his first-ever Emmy nod for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for portraying José Menéndez in Netflix’s true crime series ‘Monsters’.

He will compete against Bill Camp and Peter Sarsgaard (both for ‘Presumed Innocent’), Rob Delaney (‘Dying for Sex’), and Ashley Walters and Owen Cooper (both from ‘Adolescence’).

Puerto Rican-American actress Liza Colón-Zayas was again nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in ‘The Bear’.

She made history last year as the first Latina to win in that category.

The winners of the 77th Emmy Awards will be announced on September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. EFE
