Beirut (EFE).- An Israeli drone fired guided missiles at a Civil Defense vehicle belonging to the Islamic Health Authority on Thursday, also in southern Lebanon, injuring the two paramedics inside, according to the Lebanese National News Agency (ANN).
In a press release carried by ANN, the Islamic Health Authority stated that the attack occurred while the Civil Defense team was carrying out humanitarian work following an attack in the Al Barid neighborhood of Nabatieh al-Fawqa.
The statement added that the Israeli enemy attacked the area where the paramedics were working, causing minor injuries to two of them and damaging the team’s ambulance.
It also noted that, at the same time, Ali al-Taher Hill, located on the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, was subjected to intense Israeli artillery shelling.
According to ANN, rescue teams recovered the bodies of three people who had died in the town of Zawtar al Gharbiya, also in the Nabatieh governorate, as search and rescue efforts continue after the Lebanese Army deployed to the town two days ago.
As of Wednesday, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health’s Emergency Medical Operations Center reported that since the current escalation of hostilities began on Mar. 2, the death toll is 4,328, and 12,232 people have been injured.
Although violence has decreased significantly in recent weeks following the truce announced by the United States and Iran, as well as Washington’s warnings to Israel about continuing its operations in Lebanon, the Israel Defense Forces continue to carry out sporadic bombings, artillery attacks, and controlled explosions against various locations in southern Lebanon, according to ANN.
On Tuesday, the Lebanese Army deployed to the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiya, one of the three areas included in the withdrawal agreement between Israel and Lebanon.
The text of the framework agreement signed by the three parties stated that the Lebanese Armed Forces will gradually assume responsibility for «full and effective security» in the «pilot zones,» which Israeli troops will «gradually» withdraw from after occupying them during their invasion of southern Lebanon.
However, the Israeli withdrawal is contingent on the «successful disarmament of non-state armed groups and the dismantling of their infrastructure in those areas,» according to the agreement, in reference to the Lebanese group Hezbollah. EFE
