Melbourne, Australia, Jan 26 (EFE).- Top-seeded duo Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic and Taylor Townsend of the United States defeated third seeds Su-wei Hsieh of Taiwan and Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia in the Australian Open doubles final. The match ended with scores of 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-3.
With this victory, which took place ahead of the men’s singles final, Siniakova secured her tenth Grand Slam doubles title. She became the first woman to reach this milestone since Switzerland’s Martina Hingis achieved the feat at Wimbledon in 2015.

This marks Townsend’s second Grand Slam doubles title and Siniakova’s 10th. The Czech star has claimed three of the last four majors, including three Australian Open titles, solidifying her status as the world No. 1.
“That sounds nice when you say it,” Siniakova said. “I’m enjoying it. I love playing doubles, so I’m really happy to have achieved this success. It sounds amazing.”

Townsend said that watching Madison Keys win the women’s singles title on Saturday night had inspired her.
“Seeing Madison win made me really happy, she’s a great friend of mine,” Townsend said on court. “It’s been a fantastic tournament for American tennis.” EFE
