Moscow, Nov 3 (EFE).- Russia and Ukraine traded massive attacks overnight with Moscow using missiles and drones against Ukrainian energy facilities and port infrastructure, and Kyiv launching hundreds of drones at Russian targets, including an oil refinery.
«Last night, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a massive strike using high-precision ground- and air-based weapons, as well as attack drones, against energy infrastructure in Ukraine’s Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions—facilities that supply electricity to military-industrial enterprises and Ukrainian Armed Forces installations,» the Russian defense ministry said on Telegram.
“Strikes were also carried out against port infrastructure in the Odesa region that is being used for military purposes.”It specified that in Vinnytsia region, the Ladyzhynska thermal power plant, with a capacity of 1,800 megawatts, was targeted, while in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the Kryvorizka (2,800 megawatts) and Prydniprovska (1,765 megawatts) thermal power plants were also struck.
In Kharkiv, the Kharkivska thermal power plant (86 megawatts) was attacked, along with the Zmiivska and Losevo electrical substations, both rated at 330 kilovolts.
Finally, in Odesa region, infrastructure at the Kiliya port was targeted, as were two dry-cargo vessels at Yuzhny port.
Meanwhile, Russian air defenses «intercepted and destroyed» 856 fixed-wing Ukrainian drones overnight across 14 Russian regions, the annexed Crimean Peninsula, and the Black Sea, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that Ukraine launched 493 drones toward the Russian capital, 187 of which were «neutralized in the vicinity» of the city.
Ukraine also attacked an oil refinery in the Russian city of Yaroslavl, 250 kilometers north of Moscow, according to local governor Mikhail Yevrayev and various independent Russian and Ukrainian media outlets.
The mayor said it was a massive attack with 124 drones on Yaroslavl refinery, damaging the facility as emergency services worked to put out a fire and two employees were hospitalized with injuries.
Debris from the downed drones also shattered windows in several apartment buildings and private homes, and residents’ vehicles were damaged, he added.
According to the independent Russian news outlet Astra, the targeted facility was the Slavneft-Yanos refinery, where at least five separate fires were identified.
US President Donald Trump had demanded that Ukraine cease its attacks on Russian refineries, in an attempt to hold Kyiv responsible for high diesel prices on the international market and to divert attention from the war’s consequences in Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
While Ukraine complied with this demand for several weeks, it resumed its attacks on Russian refineries last week. EFE
