Kyiv, Nov 3 (EFE).- At least 31 people were killed in a Russian attack involving multiple aerial bombs that destroyed a school in Komishuvakhaa, near the front line in the Zaporizhzhia region, where civilians had gathered to collect humanitarian aid a day ago, a Ukrainian regional official said Tuesday.

The acting head of the regional military administration, Mykhailo Semikin, gave the preliminary death toll in televised remarks, adding that emergency services were still searching for nearly 50 people reported missing.

Semikin said Russia had used at least nine aerial bombs in the attack, some of them FAB-3000 models. These guided munitions can be launched from aircraft tens of kilometers from their targets.

According to the Ukrainian official, FAB-3000 bombs carry an explosive charge of up to 1.5 tonnes and are designed to destroy bunkers and concrete structures.

Russian forces use such bombs against Ukrainian fortifications and have also dropped them on towns and cities relatively close to the front line, including Komishuvakha, Semikin said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on X that Russian forces had launched around 10 aerial bombs at the school and an air-raid shelter where some civilians in the area had taken refuge.

“Another barbaric and utterly cynical Russian attack. Russia’s brutality knows no limits, and its contempt for human life is beyond any moral justification,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote on X, calling for a firm international response to the attack.

“I call on our partners to respond with decisive action and reject every attempt to return to business as usual with Russia. No concessions to a state that continues to murder innocent people and no rehabilitation without accountability.” EFE
